In previous posts here on the Ohmify blog, we’ve discussed the ongoing problem of electronic waste (e-waste) . There’s still lots of work to be done and it is on quite a large scale. Sometimes this can seem a little overwhelming on how you can make an impact.

Fortunately, there are some things you can do on a daily basis to confront the issue of e-waste. And you don’t even have to buy a PCB chomper to do the work!

This is where “upcycling” comes in! What is “upcycling” you ask?

“Upcycling” according to wordnik is defined as a way “To convert (waste materials etc.) into new materials or products of higher quality and greater functionality.”

In this week’s post, we have a demo where the DuctTape Mechanic has “upcycled” an old Nintendo Zapper into a wireless remote. Let’s take a look at the demo below:

Upcycling or re-purposing electronics is one of many ways to decrease e-waste. By upcycling rather than taking old or obsolete tech to the dump, why not give it a new life and purpose?
