Being in touch with other like-minded people that are so willing to share their knowledge really makes it fun to be part of Ohmify!

Brett is a member who asks a lot of good questions, is eager to learn, and has a lot of great projects going on.
He showed exceptional creativity and construction skills in addition to electronics with his project āA Santa whizzing around Christmas Treeā.
What’s your name and where are you from?
My name is Brett Martyn, I am a veterinary consultant by profession, 48 years old, and am originally from South Africa and have been living in the Netherlands for the last three years.
What was the main reason you joined Ohmify?
I have always been very interested in learning electronics, growing up I tried reading many books on the subject and found them very impractical, complicated, and uninspiring/boring. I love the very practical, hands-on, and DIY approach that Oyvind and Ohmify have.
I have recently had a lot of time on my hands, being in between jobs and changing countries, and have loved getting stuck in following my own interests and learning electronics with Ohmify.
What is the most fun project you’ve ever worked on?
I enjoy all DIY projects.
Are there any projects you’ve completed since joining Ohmify that you couldn’t have completed before?
Yes, before joining I was fixing up second-hand bicycles (there are so many here in the Netherlands) in my spare time for my family and friends, and always replacing the batteries in the lights, and how quickly they went flat was winding me up.
While following Ohmify I have learned to understand and build circuits to work off hub dynamos for the lights of our bicycles so I donāt need to replace so many batteries anymore!
Is there a project that you’re currently working on?
So many, just having fun is most important to me. I enjoyed making the Halloween projects, my Father’s Christmas sleigh decoration was fun in making, and playing around with the ATtiny 85 and learning Arduino code has been keeping me busy.
What is your favorite thing about being a part of Ohmify?
Being able to choose from the many projects and learning while making them is great, being in touch with other like-minded people that are so willing to share their knowledge really makes it fun to be part of!
Hi Brett. It is really interesting to know about other members backgrounds and why they are interested in electronics so thanks for sharing your story.
Hello Brett, yes it is fascinating to see the experiences of other members and their attraction for electronics. I see that we have something special in common: replace batteries when possible! I look forward to seeing your fleshed out achievements.
