Halloween Project: Spooky LED Lamp

Course Overview:

Are you excited about Halloween? Are your Halloween decorations ready yet? If not, they sure will be after this course.

In this project, you'll build a spooky LED lamp. And you can choose between three different circuits:

  1. A simple circuit using LEDs and resistors that is always on (Difficulty: Easy)
  2. LEDs with flame-like effects using Arduino (Difficulty: Medium)
  3. LEDs with flame-like effects using ATtiny85 (Difficulty: Medium+)

You can use a real pumpkin, a 3D printed one, or a spooky mummy using a simple jar. In general, you'll have many options to mix housing with electronics to match your skill level!

Parts List for Always-On Lamp

  • 9V Battery
  • 3 x LED
  • 3 x Resistor (1 kΩ)
  • Breadboard or protoboard for soldering

Parts List for Flickering Flame Lamp with Arduino

  • Arduino
  • 3 x 220 Ω Resistors
  • 3 x LED

Parts List for Flickering Flame Lamp with ATtiny85

  • Attiny85
  • Battery 9V
  • 7805 Voltage Regulator
  • 1 µF Capacitor
  • 0.1 µF Capacitor
  • 3 x 220 Ω Resistors
  • 3 x LED
  • Breadboard or protoboard for soldering

For this one, you also need an Arduino Uno for programming the ATtiny85 unless you have a dedicated programmer.
